What Happens if Our Moon Exploded?
What Happens if Our Moon Exploded?
Imagine waking up in a morning seeing a bright shinny rock with fiery flames in sky rushing so fast towards you. You would probably think its meteor shower or some sort of space debris. But, well it would be much worse than that. That is our nearest neighbour moon, which has just exploded and splintered into million of fragments. Enormous lunar rocks are hurling towards earths.
Could all this wipe us off the face of the planet?
How could the moon explode in the first place?
And if we do survive, how would loosing the moon would change our lives?
This is What Happens if moon exploded and if you want an answer to all these curiosity inciting questions then yes you are at very right place, as these are going to be discussed here at great details. So, all what you have to do is just stick to the article.
Okay, so how on earth did the moon blow up? Did a mining operation went wrong, a nuclear blast or a collision with a rock planet. Whatever caused this catastrophes the moon has just exploded. The largest nuclear bomb ever built called Tsar bomba had the energy of over 57 millions tons of TNT, think that strong enough? Well, that is just a drop in the ocean compared to the forces you would need to blow the moon. You would need the power of over 600 billions of bombas to destroy the moon. With anything less than that the moon would just crack into pieces and its gravity would pull it back again.
But what would happen if someone or something managed to explode the moon?
Well, then, it would be a very bad news for us. The moon debris would scatter across the solar system. Some would go to outer space and some would heed just straight to earth. The earth's gravitational pull would immediately attract the moon rocks. As the moon rocks would start to pick up speed they would come crashing down to the atmosphere. Luckily, most of the smaller debris would burn up before it reaches us. Remaining left bigger rocks would be travelling much slower as compared to similar size asteroid. The damage they cause wouldn't amount too much. But the air would get hotter, as the moon chunks wouldn't cause much damage but continuous barrage of debris would indeed makes our atmosphere hotter. Our world would start to get hotter and hotter. Eventually getting to the point to ensnaring whole life.
So, if you are thinking to leave planet, do it as quick as possible because moon debris raining on thousands of satellites up there would make any travel nearly impossible.
But what would happen if you dodge the moon debris and go up some how or try to hunger down deep in the earth? what would life be like in the aftermath?
Well, it wouldn't get any cooler. The moon stabilizes the earth's actual tilt. It gives us seasons but a new tilt, some of earth's part would be constantly exposed to sun. In the worst case, the polar regions might get melting, rising sea levels and drowning many parts of the earth. Hence, the aftermath of moon's explosion wouldn't be any good as a lot of life would be eliminated owning to massive floods. It would be so devastating for humanity as huge chunks of earth's surface would then be submerged.
So, as the debris settles, the sky could look a little different. The removal of the moon and remaining moon rocks might form a rock cluster around and forming rings around earth like saturn. And every once in a while some of the debris would rain on the earth.
Also, from billions of years the moon's gravitational pull has slowed down the earth's rotation. So, without moon the earth would start rotating faster. We would have shorter days and stronger winds. The birds and insects would have a tough time surviving those winds. Not only that, but also the ocean tides would start to die down into tiny little waves. Moons gravity helped creating tides on earth and it would also eliminate the ocean life which depends on tides and currents for its survival.
Our whole world would be literally filped upside down. The earth would burn up.
Our days would be shorter and moon wouldn't be there to light up the night sky.
Now we know how devastating it would be if moon exploded. So always appreciate moon not for just its outer beauty that it gives you a pleasant view to look up in the night skies but for the reason that it is actually holding our earth in many ways at a suitable position. It gives us a lot of things from managing our sea tides to our rotation. Also, it balances our day and night cycle, it light up our skies. So, here is a lot that moons gives us than we give it back. If we lose it we will face dramatic changes and devastation
Thus, this is what we would face in case moon just exploded today, luckily which is unlikely to happen ever. But if you love such speculative science reads just follow this blog as it is thoroughly dedicated to Epic Exploration of Scientific scenarios.
