All the stars have an expiration date, stars like our suns have not enough mass, so they don't turn to be neutron stars rather turns out to be Red Giants. They start shedding their outer layers untill only their core remains that's when they become white dwarfs. White Dwarfs don't have fusion reactions fueling them up. They gradually cool down untill one day they become Black Dwarf.
The thing is there are no black dwarfs anywhere in the Universe.
Black dwarfs just hasn't formed yet.
White dwarfs may not produce any energy but they have still energy remaining to keep them shining faintly for hundreds of billions of years.
Given the fact that Universe is only 13.8 billions years old. Even the oldest white dwarfs are glowing and temperature is few thousand degrees kelvins.
In the case of our Sun it will take another quatrillion years to cools down and become a black dwarf. That is one million million million million years from now.
But lets twist it up and think that Sun burns out by tomorrow.
What will Happen then?
Hope that you have enough batteries to lite your surroundings up. Also, whole the solar system will be thrown into darkness so wear many layers of warm clothes since it would be too colder to. After the first week without the Sun heat the earth's temperature will drop to 0⁰degree celsius and after a year it will go freezing cold dropping to - 100⁰. That is when Sun turns into a black dwarf instantly but that is unlikely even for our hypothetical scenarios.
Realistically, for sun to turn black dwarf it will have to go through all stages of stellar life cycle. Sun will go through all three phases of turning red giant, then white dwarf and at last black dwarf. And at the very red giant stage it is likely to swallow the earth, venus and mercury. Now at least we now not have to worry about freezing in cold at the black dwarf phase.
However, other lucky planets who escape the red giant phase are likely to orbit the remnants of sun and even if sun is reduced to size of earth its mass would stay same and its gravitational pull will remain unchanged. So remaining planets will keep on orbiting the remaining sun as if nothing has happened.
On the grand scale of universe it would not change anything either, the death of the sun would be just like another of star to go dark.
