What Happens if you are sent to Colonize Mars?
What Happens If you are sent to colonize Mars?
You would have probably heard about European colonization of Americas, French colonization of Northern Africa and British colonization of India. The colonization is not only an outrageous thing but a difficult task as well. It took centuries for these powerful countries of those times to colonize the smaller states or even the peripheries of them. It was a tiresome job indeed. Now, imagine how difficult it would be to colonize one complete planet. Yeah, you heard it so right, colonization of one complete planet called Mars is now the destination of humanity. The colonization of Mars is though being strenuous but still the next target of humanity. It is a destination, NASA's top scientists are long yearning for.
Mars our dry reddish & orange neighbour that has radius of 2,106 miles. It is the seventh largest planet in our very solar system and has about half the diameter of our Earth. It has surface gravity of 37.5 percent of earth's. It just resides 395.54 million kilometers away from us and
It would take almost 7 seven months to reach the bloody red planet. Mars lies at fourth slot from our sun. Due its red colour it had got a plenty of nick names. For example, Chinese called it the "Fire Star"and the Romans and Greeks named it after their god of war. It received a another amazing name "Her Desher" from ancient Egyptians which means "Red One". Also, its moons, Phobos are Deimos got their names after the horses who pulls the chariot of Roman god of War.
Mars has a huge number of wonders for you to explore. If you somehow manage to travel to Mars, you would be seeing a great deal of its astounding geographic features. Firstly, you would feel a lot more colder on Mars. As mars is far more colder than earth as it lies at greater distance from Sun. The average temperature there is -80⁰ Fahrenheit or -60⁰ Celsius. The highest temperature ever recorded on Earth was -126⁰ Fahrenheit or -88⁰ Celsius at Vostok Station in Antarctica.
So, now you can surmise how much colder it would be for you, if you somehow landed on Mars. You may get frozen over there like Green Boots of mount Everest, if you are not prepared enough to survive in a such colder environment. Staying on Mars for you would be like staying in seemingly endless icy-cold desert with a really freezing, thin, dry atmosphere. There is no water present on Mars and it can not likely stay there due to the way it is made up. You would face all dryness induced skin diseases as the atmosphere of Mars is thousand times dry than driest parts of Atacama desert of Chile, which is itself driest place on Earth.
The planet has a number of spectacular views to offer you. It has many staggering mountains, volcanoes, canyons to astonish you. Mountain Olympus Mons which is three times taller than our highest mountain on Earth called as Everest. It has a largest canyon system of our solar system called Valles Marineris. This gigantic canyons are enough to surprise you with their sublime and eye-catching views. There are largest volcanos of our Solar system present on Mars too. The mount Olympus Mons is itself one of them. Olympus mons is not only largest volcano but also the highest mountain in our solar system. Another stunning thing you see on Mars would be its biggest Crater known as Borealis Basin, which occupies 40% of its surface. Just like our Earth, the poles of Mars are also frozen and ice-packed. But the ice there is dry ice.
So, now you know about the wonders of the Mars.
Elon Musk has said that, by 2050 there will be a city of 1 million people living on Mars. Which will be transported to Mars by 1000 Starships under his SpaceX venture. In the view of many scientists the Mars would be colonized by 2050.
But let's make it a quick and imagine that you are the very first person landed on Mars. So, How would you be living on Mars?
So, you are the first earthling to start the colonization of Mars. Here you would feel so lonely. Remember that, unlike our Moon, Mars has a thin atmosphere and sound can be heard there. But as you would be alone and very first earthling to land there, you would have no one to talk or hear from. Mars has low gravity, which promotes it to have powerful dust storms. These storms are planet wide phenomenons and lasts for years. You would only see these dramatic storms full of powerful gusts of wind and hear the gigantic terrifying voices they generate.
When you would wakeup in the mornings, you would be seeing completely different mornings. The Martian morning would be colder and you would see sun rising from blue patches in pinkish-red skies. You would serve your time in extracting water from Martian soil using water extractor. You would have 50 liters of water to consume per day that would be enough for you. You would be getting your Oxygen produced by splitting the water into its constituents parts and that water would be used by you during your stay at Mars. It is so likely that Insects and algae would also be a part of the Martian diet.
Wandering on Martian surface with reddish regolith over it would turn your hobby. If you would be strolling in Northern hemisphere, all you see would be flat surface with a few impact craters. However, if you are walking somewhere in the southern hemisphere, there you would see all the mountains and highlands.
Among other things, When you look up in skies while saunting on Mars, you would also see the Martian clouds. Which are generally of White, Grey, or Black hue. But clouds are so rare on Mars and unlike Earthly clouds, the Martian clouds are made up of Water ice.
But as the day passes, you would again see those pinkish skies with sun going down with a bluer patch in its vicinity. As the time passes, the martian nights would come to take over its skies. The night skies there would be as clear as the desert sky from Earth. Imagine you are just strolling through the cold & dry reddish bumpy plains of Mars and you go on to sit at some tiny rock. You put anything having in your hands aside to just look up at the skies. You would see many things in the crystal clear skies of Mars. With the absence of the atmospheric pollution and light pollution along with absence of brightness of moon, the Milky Way would look spectacular on Mars. Now, just imagine watching that beautiful glinting Milky Way stretching from horizon to horizon and its length clotted with frothy star clouds.
You would also be seeing rapidly moving mars moons into its night skies. The Phobos would resemble a pale hued pebble while Deimos would appear more like bright star. Both of the moons would be shinning brightly and would cast your shadows on dusty dunes or baby rocks nearby.
Mars is close to Earth so stars would not look either brighter or any fainter, they look same as from Earth. But since there is no pollution or dense atmosphere at Mars, so the stars on Mars wouldn't twinkle which would be shockingly amazing view to watch.
The Planets like Venus and Mercury would look fainter as they are from Earth but Jupiter and Saturn would sometimes look much brighter. You would also be seeing your Earth from there as well.
Space flights do have effects on human body, typically on musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and immune systems. These effects are similar to aging but in space, you can say, that aging happens so faster. The flight to Mars would also have effects on your body, it can give you bone loss, back pain and dry plums.
Humans would likely evolve on Mars. As humanity on Earth, have evolved from hominids to homo sapiens. They have taken dramatic changes in appearance in a millennia, when they first journeyed out of Africa to different parts of globe. So, the chances of human evolution and drastic changes in appearance are certain to a greater extent. Any future colonization on Mars would be so different. The future colonialists of Mars would be technologically so advanced. They would be technically and culturally so distinct from their terrestrial ancestors. They would develop their own cultural norms and dialects. Martian would have a distinct appearance from us. They would have bigger skulls, and muscular bodies. Their eyes would also be not same as us, as Martians would be bigger-eyed. Also, their skin colour would either be pale or too dark.
Any child born on Mars, would be the very first Martian and would hold this distinction of being aboriginal from the other earthy colonialists. So, the Child born on Mars would feel easy in adapting to the environment. Since, it would be his very world he is born in and likely to inhabit it for longer.
These are the amazing things you would feel and see, if you would somehow manage to live on Mars during your life time. The colonization of Mars which was mere a fraction of science and was considered a figment by many is soon to turn into a reality in next 20 years. So, chances for you to enjoy living in some life unit on mars and do star grazing in vast canyons of mars during chilling Martian nights are very high.
